An 18-year-old man allegedly caused a three-vehicle accident at Southeast Sixth Street and Bell Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, September 8 at around 3:15 p.m. The accident injured five people, including two children, and he was arrested hours after the crash.
The five people who were hurt were rushed to area hospitals via ambulance. According to Des Moines Police Department spokesman Sergeant Paul Parizek, the suspect was heading west on Bell Avenue at a high speed when his car crashed into a pickup truck, which was headed north on Southeast Six, causing the pickup to fly and eventually hit an SUV.
Parizek said police investigations determined that excessive speed was the cause of the three-vehicle accident. The Des Moines Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident, along with police officials.
