The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa reported a multi-vehicle accident that happened along Olympic Avenue, just north of 280th Street, last Monday, October 31. One man was injured in the accident, which occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m.
According to preliminary investigations, a 1996 Dodge Avenger operated by Keenan Olson and a Pontiac Grand Prix operated by an unknown driver were traveling down the road at a high rate of speed.
As the vehicles headed southbound, David Wendl, who was driving a 1996 Ford Bronco, pulled out of his driveway to head south and was rear-ended by Olson’s Dodge Avenger. The Pontiac also collided with Olson’s Dodge Avenger before veering into the east ditch. The Pontiac was able to exit the ditch and flee the scene of the accident.
Wendl was thrown out of his vehicle and sustained multiple injuries. He was taken to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County emergency medical services and was later taken via helicopter to a medical facility in Des Moines.
