Gilbert Man Receives Reduced Charge in Hit-and-Run Case

|

A 23-year-old man from Gilbert made a guilty plea to the charge of failure to report an accident – a simple misdemeanor – last Monday, August 1. In doing so, he had his charge reduced from the original charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to obey a traffic control device. The charges are in relation to the December 2015 hit-and-run death of an 18-year-old Iowa State University student from Urbana.

The Assistant Story County Attorney said both the prosecution and defense panels are in agreement that they will recommend a sentence of 30 days in jail, a $100 fine, and a 35% surcharge and court costs for the defendant.
