Training Bicyclist Killed in McMillan Car Collision

|

A bicyclist who was training for her first Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) died when she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle, the Des Moines Register reported on July 16.

The victim, a 52-year-old Marshfield resident, had been riding her bicycle on June 13 just before 6 p.m. on a paved County Road T in the town of McMillan when she was fatally struck by a car, a post at the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page showed. Both she and the vehicle were traveling in the same direction when the crash occurred, and the bicycle accident remains under investigation by local authorities.

The RAGBRAI charter services director for the Quad Cities Bicycle Club said the bicyclist had informed him that “RAGBRAI was going to be the highlight of her summer.” The director also offered the organization’s “deepest sympathies to [the victim’s] family during this tragic loss.”
