Single-Vehicle Accident in West Hill Kills One and Injures Another

The Kent Police Department in Union City, Iowa has reported that a single-vehicle accident resulted in the death of a female passenger and injury of the male driver, according to the Kent Reporter on June 16.

The accident, which happened on the West Hill, occurred when the driver struck a traffic light pole in the 25400 block of the Pacific Highway just after 8:15 a.m.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office said that the 51-year-old woman succumbed to multiple mortal injuries sustained in the accident. She was unconscious when medical responders arrived, and the 47-year-old driver needed to be extricated by firefighters. He was transported to a medical center in Seattle, although his condition was not reported.

Kent Police Sergeant Mike Schanbacher said that both victims, who were found to be residents of Des Moines, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the incident. Investigations are still ongoing to determine what contributed to the car accident.
