A two-car accident in Jasper County, Iowa on Thursday, July 30 at around 4 p.m. has led to the death of an elderly woman.
The victim was identified as 83-year-old Newton resident Joanne Hunter.
According to preliminary investigations, a vehicle driving eastbound on F-48 east of Colfax crossed the center line and hit Hunter’s 1999 Buick Century head-on as she was driving westbound. The driver responsible was identified as a 32-year-old woman.
Hunter was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Hunter’s passenger, a 91-year-old individual from Newton, was brought to Skiff Medical Center to receive medical attention. Both individuals were wearing their seat-belts at the time of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle who hit Hunter’s, on the other hand, was taken to Mercy Medical Center. She had been traveling with her infant in the back seat of the car at the time, who remained uninjured in the incident.
