Consumer advocacy groups, such as Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety and the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group, are condemning used car seller CarMax for selling vehicles with pending recalls. The nationwide conglomerate is one of the top used car sellers in the nation and is known for selling recalled cars with dangerous, potentially lethal, defects to buyers.
The advocacy groups reported that more than 17 percent of cars sold at the CarMax North Attleborough location were recalled or defective. The repairs for vehicles with recalls would come at zero cost to CarMax and are made readily available by carmakers that originally produced the defective car or defective vehicle component.
CarMax issued a statement that they inform all potential buyers of the defects and recalls in their vehicles. They claimed manufacturers’ dealers are better equipped at providing repairs for recalls to customers rather than to used car sellers like CarMax.
