Le Mars woman surrenders to authorities regarding 2012 Sioux City car accident

|

Forty-three-year-old Le Mars, Iowa resident Victoria Lynette Ernst has turned herself into the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, April 1 in relation to a 2012 Sioux City car accident that resulted in the hit-and-run death of 22-year-old Lance Knudsen.

On Feb. 4, 2013, Knudsen’s mother, Michelle DeCora, filed a negligence lawsuit against Ernst in the Woodbury County District Court. According to the civil lawsuit that DeCora filed, Ernst was a passenger in the Blazer that the police authorities found near Knudsen’s abandoned body at the accident site and that an unidentified person was operating the vehicle when Knudsen was hit.

The estate is seeking an undisclosed sum of money for wages Knudsen would have earned had he not passed away, Knudsen’s funeral and burial costs, and compensation to the family for the loss of Knudsen’s companionship. The case, however, has yet to go to trial.
