Des Moines Looking to Avoid Sledding Lawsuits

|

Des Moines is looking to institute a way to avoid personal injury lawsuits concerning sledding on public property. City Clerk Buster Brown said city officials considered banning sledding on public property but decided against the move and made a call to post signs that people would be sledding at their own risk, meaning the city would not be responsible for accidents.

Other Iowan cities, like Sioux City and Omaha, have paid settlements to plaintiffs in various lawsuits regarding sledding accidents that occurred in their parks and golf courses over the recent years.
