A nursing home in Washington, Iowa, was fined $15,000 by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals after surveillance footage showed a patient lying in the middle of a hallway after a fall for nearly an hour before staff came to her aid.
Workers were celebrating a Christmas party when the accident occurred. The state department claims the nursing home failed to provide the necessary intervention and treatment.
However, the facility’s owner says the video was taken out of context and that the woman was prone to lying on the ground. The patient was later helped up by staff and taken to the hospital where a cut on her head required four staples.
