A 21-year-old Des Moines man, who was found guilty of vehicular homicide and causing serious injury while drunk, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Last August the man drove drunk, ran a red light, and slammed into an SUV with four Lincoln High School students inside.
A 17-year-old girl in the SUV was killed and four passengers were injured, including one in the drunk driver’s car. The driver’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.175, more than two times over the legal speed limit.
The surviving passengers suffered serious injuries, including broken ribs, bruised lungs, shattered collarbones, and leg injuries.
