Two nursing homes in Iowa have received one-star and two-star ratings on the government’s five-star rating scale. Ratings are issued by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and includes factors such as staffing ratios, health inspections, and self-reported quality measures.
One of the nursing homes, located in Coralville, received a one-star rating six times and a two-start rating twice over a seven-year biannual period. Between November 2010 and January 2012, the facility had 33 health violations, well over the state average of seven.
The two-star nursing home was found to have numerous cleanliness and repair deficiencies in many of its residents’ rooms. The administrator for the facility says she’s working toward improving the rating.
