A 56-year-old woman suffered serious burns after her home in the northern Des Moines town of Saylor Township exploded. According to the Des Moines Register, the woman was transported to the University of Iowa’s Burn Treatment Center in Iowa City.
Neighbors were able to get the woman out of the house and carry her to safety but say that her whole body was covered in burns. One neighbor says she heard a total of five explosions, which completely destroyed the home.
Several fire departments came to battle the blaze. At this time investigators do not know the cause of the explosion.
