A San Diego Superior Court jury recently awarded a man $7.5 million in his slip and fall lawsuit against Starbucks Coffee Co.
The jury decided that Starbucks was negligent in maintaining its property when the man visited the coffee shop in 2008. According to court documents, the man was walking from the cashier to the pickup counter when he slipped on the wet floor a manager was mopping. Complications from his head injury has prevented him from returning to work as a chiropractor.
$1 million will go to compensate his wife for loss of consortium and the rest will pay for his medical expenses, lost income, and loss of enjoyment of life.
