A 44-year-old elevator repairman fell ten stories to his death early on Friday morning. The man was working on a disabled elevator on the ninth floor when, investigators believe, he somehow lost his balance and fell down the shaft. The elevator accident occurred in New York City’s Garment District. Employees of the building say they heard a loud boom, not knowing someone had fallen.
Emergency responders say the worker was in cardiac arrest when he was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The elevator is currently closed down pending further investigation. So far no code violations have been issued.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim in this tragic accident.
