This week, hospitals in Iowa have been admitting more patients with winter weather-related injuries. Officials say the most common injury is related to slip-and-fall accidents from properties not cleaning up snow and slush.
At Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Children’s Emergency Center, and Mercy Medical Center West Lakes, doctors saw 61 patients for injuries by noon on Tuesday. 15 of the injuries were from traffic accidents and one patient suffered an injury from a defective snowblower. In addition, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Methodist West, and Lutheran Hospital, 27 patients were treated for “snow storm-related” injuries before noon.
An official from Mercy Medical Center said the injuries mostly affected people’s backs, legs, shoulders, ankles, and wrists.
