Record Number of Traffic Fatalities in 2010

In West Des Moines, there were twice as many traffic fatalities in 2010 than there were in 2008 and 2009 combined. Over the past year, a total of eight people were killed in car accidents, as compared to two people in 2009 and one person in 2008. Six out of the eight fatal crashes occur on one of the large highways or interstates in the city limits.

The West Des Moines police lieutenant says that it makes sense there are a higher number of serious accidents out on larger roads since a higher number of cars at faster speeds can cause more damaging accidents.
