Two men were injured after their semitrailers collided head-on in Algona Monday.
According to officials with the Iowa Highway Patrol, 32-year-old Matthew Lawrence Middleton, and 43-year-old Leornard Thomas Gilbert Jr. were both transported to the Kossuth Regional Health Center by Algona Rescue following the crash. Middleton was later transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, where he is listed in fair condition. Gilbert’s condition is unknown.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Middleton was traveling westbound on Highway 18 shortly after 12:00 p.m. Monday when he attempted to pass a snowplow that was also westbound. Due to a cloud of dust created by the plow, Middleton did not see Gilbert’s semitrailer, which was traveling eastbound on the highway, police say.
The two vehicles collided head-on and were both totaled in the wreck, according to the accident report.
