The first wrongful death lawsuit following the deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair has been filed by the family of a woman who died when the stage fell on her. She is one of six people who died as a result and nearly three dozen other people were seriously injured.
The woman’s wife is suing the state of Indiana, Live Nation, Mid-America Sound Corp., and Dave Lucas Entertainment Group which designed and constructed the stage that fell down after a big gust of wind blew through only a few minutes before the country band Sugarland was scheduled to play.
This lawsuit will test Indiana’s treatment of same-sex marriage since gay couples are not eligible to receive benefits from wrongful death lawsuits. The couple was married in Hawaii and have raised a 17-year-old girl together.
