Two-vehicle collision injures eight, including four children

According to authorities, a two-vehicle collision injured eight people around 8:30 pm last Sunday in Spencer, Iowa.

The accident occurred when the 47-year-old driver of a pickup truck failed to yield to oncoming traffic on Highway 71. He pulled in front of a van heading south on the highway, resulting in a collision that sent the van driver to Spencer Hospital with abdomen injuries.

Four children and two other adults in the van were injured with a variety of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was also injured, although less seriously.

According to the pickup truck driver, he was blinded by the setting sun as he turned onto the highway and did not see the oncoming van.
