Two-car crash leaves car dangling from bridge

|

Last week, a two-vehicle accident in Hiawatha, Iowa on Interstate 380 left one vehicle hanging off the bridge.

The accident occurred as a van was waiting to turn left on Interstate 380 as traffic was backed up on the east side of the bridge. A motorist left a gap in the traffic in order for the van to fit and waved him through, but a car on the outside lane did not see the van and they collided.

The impact of the collision sent the car through the barrier and through a chain-link fence until it came to a stop nose-down on the snowy embankment. Firefighters had to hook a chain onto the car in order to pull it up as emergency crews worked to clear the scene so that traffic could continue to move. No serious injuries were reported.
