Argument leads to single-vehicle crash

|

A car crashed into the median last Saturday at the 151/61 overpass just south of Jones Street around 12:38 p.m. following an argument between two friends in the car, according to Dubuque police.

The 23-year-old man and woman were driving south on the highway when the man jerked the steering wheel out of the woman’s hands, sending the car into the median. According to the woman, the argument was over her refusal to stop and let the man out of the car. Because the man had no driver’s license and had never driven a car, he did not realize that grabbing the steering wheel would cause the car to crash.

The woman says that she does not remember why they had initially started arguing, but that she would not let the man out of the car because “he didn’t know where to go because he was from out of town.”

Both were taken to Finley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released soon thereafter. The woman, who suffered a broken ankle, has filed a complaint against the man for being caused a serious injury by a vehicle.
