Iowa State Representative Kerry Burt was arrested for drunk driving in February. The police report released recently reveals that Rep. Burt tried to get out of the arrest by claiming he was drinking with the Governor.
After the officer pulled over Rep. Burt, the officer gave Burt a breathalyzer test that registered 1.31 blood alcohol content. Burt then asked the officer to call a number of important state officials to get him out of the arrest. The officer eventually arrested Rep. Burt and took him to jail.
According to a spokesperson for the Governor’s office, the Governor was at a reception in downtown Des Moines with Rep. Burt, but he cannot account for Burt’s drunkenness because he returned home by 8:55 p.m.
